NSPE-CO Dinner Meeting: CDOT and the Floyd Hill Project
Wednesday, September 27th NSPE-CO's Central Chapter hosted dinner and a presentation from CDOT on the I-70 Floyd Hill Project!
The I-70 Floyd Hill Project will address the deficient infrastructure and improve travel time reliability, safety, and mobility along 7 miles of I-70 from west of Evergreen in the Floyd Hill area through the Veterans Memorial Tunnels to the eastern edge of Idaho Springs.
Major elements of the Project include adding a third westbound travel lane on I-70, constructing a missing frontage road connection, adding an eastbound auxiliary lane to the uphill section of Floyd Hill, improving interchanges and intersections, improving design speeds and stopping sight distance on horizontal curves, improving the Clear Creek Greenway trail, and implementing environmental mitigation for wildlife connectivity, air and water quality, stream conditions, and recreation. The Project addresses critical infrastructure deficiencies, including replacing one of the worst-rated bridges in the state.
Tammy Heffron, I-70 Floyd Hill Structures Lead
has been designing and managing bridge projects for 28 years; the past 19 of which have been with HDR where she is a vice president and their Central Region Bridge Leader. Currently, she is serving as the Structures Lead for the I-70 Floyd Hill Project, with over 10,000 feet of bridges and three miles of retaining walls. Tammy has led ACEC national honor award-winning CM/GC projects such as the Point Bonita Lighthouse Bridge in San Francisco and the I-70 EB PPSL project in Colorado. She earned her bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Lehigh University and master’s degree in civil engineering from Purdue University.
